A visit to the Canal Experience at the Providence Metropark is a peaceful step back in time.
The canal boat pulled by mules takes you through a lock along about an hour ride. The staff are dressed in 1876 period attire and you learn about what life was like at that time and how it was to travel on a canal boat.
I thought it was an interesting way to travel though trips would have taken a long time compared to today’s transportation options. The canal boats were eventually replaced by railroads which provided a much faster way of travel.
Also at this Metropark is the Issac Ludwig Mill in which you can see a gristmill and the Heritage Center which shows the history of the canal town of Providence.
